Technology evolves so fast! 2 years ago, the buzz words were “web-to-poynt-ow”, “ey-dyaks”, “eks-eich-ti-em-el”, etc. Now the buzz everywhere is about HTML5/CSS3 and how these technologies will power the future of the Interwebs. In order to stay relevant, we as web professionals should be very responsive to change. As Clarence Darrow aptly puts it:

“It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change.”

Looking forward into the future, we know that the Joomlasphere and the Joomla template scene will eventually move towards these technologies. It is for this reason that we at MagicThemes are investing a lot of energy in the development of a Framework that will enable template developers to streamline the creation of HTML5 and CSS3 Joomla Templates.

At this very early stage, MagicThemes can’t promise to release 1 template every month so we decided to temporarily leave the “template club” system. We initially thought we can, but our team is still small, and we still can’t invest full time in the development of templates since we still don’t have any revenue from MagicThemes.

We’re now using a pay-by-credit System

Because of these considerations, we decided to use a pay-by-credit system. Basically, you buy credits to purchase templates that you like. This would also give us the time to prepare the templates thoroughly before release. Maybe a 2-month release cycle is the most possible scenario. 

We could actually release templates every month but the quality would be very low. We don’t like that! We want to be known as a template store that provides high-quality templates.

Since no one has paid anything yet, changing our system this early will not have unfair consequences.

It may just be Temporary

But we don’t plan to do this forever. If ever our customers demand that we transform into a Template Club, we will! If we can grow our team and if we have enough revenue to stop client-work, template club is the way to go and we will release high-quality templates every month!

Just stay tuned! We’re ready to release our first template by October. 

The future has arrived. HTML5 is here and there’s now no excuse in not using it. So our team just decided to use HTML5 and CSS3 in all our future template releases starting October.

Does that mean we’ll be limiting our support to HTML5/CSS3 compatible browsers only? Believe it or not, but we will actually be able to support all major browsers, even Internet Explorer 6 and 7. Web development is very exciting nowadays as new technologies are born every day that would give end-users and web developers a better web experience.

HTML5 Means Universal Mobile Device Support using Responsive Layout technique

So what’s the benefit of using HTML5? Aside from tons of useful features, HTML5  support means that our templates will have universal compatibility with modern mobile devices. All devices which support HTML5 are automatically supported. By using “responsive layout” technique, we can adjust how the web page is displayed depending on screen size by using simple CSS switches.

HTML5 could mean better SEO

So what else will you get from HTML5? This is unproven, but HTML5 has a better semantic markup. If you don’t know what that means, just understand this: using HTML5, the code is better organized, therefore Search Engines will be able to parse it easily, and logically categorize the content by importance.

We can’t wait to show you what we’re doing so far. We should stop talking and start coding…

Although we have opened our website for user registrations this August, we haven’t considered it a formal “launch” yet. It’s just a soft launch that showcases our high quality free Joomla Templates. We will fully launch when three of our premium Joomla templates are ready and after applying some site improvements.

Welcome to our new users! We hope that you’ll enjoy your stay with MagicThemes.

Since we opened our site to new users on the first week of August 2010, over a hundred users have registered with at least 10 new users registrations per day by the end of August. Our free templates have been downloaded 400+ times, and our website received 2300+ unique visitors. We take this as a good sign that we’re doing something good. We have just released 6 free high-quality Joomla templates, and we haven’t released our premium Joomla templates yet.
