Membership and Licensing
Important Change in our Licensing System!
At this very early stage, MagicThemes can’t promise to release 1 template every month. We initially thought we can, but our team is still small, and we still can’t invest full time in the development of templates as we still don’t have enough revenue. Because of these considerations, we decided to use a pay-per-credit system. Basically, you buy credits to purchase templates that you like. We will use this system because we can’t promise you that we can release templates every month.
Code and Graphics Licensing
We have licensed all the PHP code part of all our templates (free or premium) to be GPL 3. For our free templates, the graphics part is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 3.0 Unported. For our premium templates, the graphics part is private/propriety license. Which means that you can only use our templates on websites that you have registered, and we have authorized.
What you pay is what you get
At this early stage, MagicThemes is not like other Template Clubs where you buy “yearly membership” and download everything. Here, you buy “license credits”. You spend license credits to download specific Templates that you like.
During or after registration, you have an option to buy a “Membership” which contains a license pack. A License Pack contains more than 1 license credits. After purchasing a Membership, you can buy more license credits as you may need.
After downloading the template, you are free to install it on websites that you own! But we can only support one domain. When you purchase a license, there is a facility to attach your domain to a license. Only the attached domain are eligible for support.
How does it work?
Here’s a scenario. As a new user, you have an option to purchase a Membership. Right now we’re offering a Joomla Club Membership that contains 3 license credits for only $30. After buying this license pack, you’ll be able to download any template that you want by using your license credits to purchase templates. So in total, you can download 3 templates.
The License Credits will never expire! What expires is the support we offer for that license. The priority support duration starts when you purchase a template. It will last for 3 months.
You can also install the templates on other sites that you own! You’re not limited to one website. But the support is limited to just one domain.
If you want to buy more templates, or if you want us to support another domain, just purchase more license credits. After buying your first License Pack, you’ll have an option to buy more licenses.
